ADHD Evaluations for Adults and Teens in Frisco, TX

ADHD is a neurodevelopmental disorder.

Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (AD/HD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder which impacts one's executive functioning (the brain's ability to organize, plan, and make decisions). There are three presentations: 1) AD/HD, Inattentive Type, 2) AD/HD, Hyperactivity Type, and 3) AD/HD, Combined Type.

AD/HD symptoms may look different in adulthood.

Among children and teenagers, AD/HD is not only characterized by inattention or hyperactivity. Many times, children and teens may also find themselves having difficulty regulating their emotions, being more irritable, having low frustration tolerance, and struggling to make decisions regarding their academic or career goals.

AD/HD tends to look different as individuals transition to adulthood due to the increased work demands, household responsibilities, childcare duties, and financial management. Adults with AD/HD may have trouble with productivity, low motivation, feeling scattered, and difficulty listening in group conversations. In some cases, adults may find themselves interrupting others in conversations, struggling to maintain patience, and having feelings of restlessness.

ADHD impacts work demands, household responsibilities, childcare duties, and financial management.

AD/HD can often be misdiagnosed and misunderstood by many practitioners. AD/HD can look like many other disorders such as anxiety, depression, autism spectrum disorder, learning disorder, and oppositional defiance disorder.  It is critical that you find a practitioner that is well trained in AD/HD and has a strong understanding of other co-morbid disorders.
